GUEST POST: Why DID I write a book? by Andrew Towers

andrew towers.png

Andrew Towers is the author of Top of the House, a “brilliant, bold, hilarious and uplifting novel involving a golden monkey, a toy troll, a transvestite, his lover and a lot of bingo by the sea in the North East town of Deerpool. It’s a comedy, a love story, a thumping good heist and a life-affirming read”:

Maurice is down on his luck in Deerpool.

He’s lost his teaching job, the electricity in his flat has been cut off and the local hoodlums mock his transvestism and upload their exploits onto YouTube. To make things worse, he and his best friend and sometime lover ‘Divvy’ Karen have managed to pique the ire of Karen’s psychopathic and vengeful ex-boyfriend, Chunky.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. When he finds out that the Pentagon Bingo Hall, mecca of the north-west, is giving away a golden monkey worth half a million pounds he plans a heist that will make their dreams of escape a gorgeous reality. But there are numerous unforeseen complications…

Will Maurice and Karen win large, fulfill their dreams and ride into the sunset bound for Tijuana? Or will the murderous Chunky ensure that their number is finally up?

Today I’m lucky to have an amazingly funny guest post from the author himself. I loved reading this post and I hope you do too!

BLOG TOUR: The Sunflower Cottage Breakfast Club by Lynsey James

Picture

synopsis
Emily Reed is having a bad day. Devastated at losing her hard-earned promotion to the ditz who’s sleeping with the boss, her mother drops a devastating bombshell—the dad she’s known and loved for twenty-five years isn’t her biological father.

Now Emily needs answers and a month in Luna Bay should give her the time she needs to find her father, and land the difficult client at the Sunflower Cottage B&B which should put her back in the running for her coveted promotion.

Setting up the Sunflower Cottage breakfast club should be a great way to meet the locals and maybe even find out who her father is! The only problem is that brooding and insanely gorgeous, Noah, is determined to make Emily’s stay perfectly uncomfortable.

Finding out the truth was never going to be simple, but she never thought her heart would get in the way…

I have something a little bit different for you today. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that I generally write about YA and adult fiction, but today I welcome my sister Emily as a guest to kick off the blog tour for the new children’s book, The Knight Who Wouldn’t Fight by Helen and Thomas Docherty! Emily has just finished a degree in Primary Education (teaching children from ages 4-11), so I thought this blog tour would be perfect for her. So without further ado, I’ll hand over to Emily!

BLOG TOUR: We’ve Come to Take You Home by Susan Gandar

Picture

It’s time for another blog tour! Today is my stop on the tour for We’ve Come to Take You Home, a historical fiction/contemporary crossover novel by Susan Gandar. I was intrigued by the blurb so I couldn’t wait to take part in this tour. There’s also a giveaway for a signed copy of the book at the end of this post!

synopsis
Samantha Foster and Jessica Brown are destined to meet. But one lives in the 20th century, the other in the 21st…

It is April 1916 and thousands of men have left home to fight in the war to end all wars. Jessica Brown’s father is about to be one of these men. A year later, he is still alive, but Jess has to steal to keep her family from starving. And then a telegram arrives – her father has been killed in action.

Four generations later, Sam Foster’s father is admitted to hospital with a suspected brain haemorrhage. A nurse asks if she would like to take her father’s hand. Sam refuses. All she wants is to get out of this place, stuck between the world of the living and the world of the dead, a place with no hope and no future, as quickly as possible.

As Sam’s father’s condition worsens, her dreams become more frequent – and more frightening. She realises that what she is experiencing is not a dream, but someone else’s living nightmare…

We’ve Come to Take You Home is an emotionally-charged story of a friendship forged 100 years apart.

Top 5 Wednesday: Most Unlikable Characters

july w4.png

It’s not often I dislike a book character; they have to do something really awful or just generally be a horrible person for me to dislike them. Otherwise, I’ll just not have a very strong opinion about them. This means that for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday, I really had to rack my brains to think of some characters. There are a couple of minor characters, some protagonists, and one that is maybe a bit controversial (please don’t hurt me). I’ll start with the more minor characters and work up to the major ones…

Top 5 Wednesday (on Monday): Recent Additions to my Wishlist

july w3.png

Okay, so I should probably begin this post by apologising. It’s been over a week since I last posted anything, but for good reason… I graduated from university! My twin sister Emily graduated a week before me, and I graduated on Wednesday. I now officially have a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Film & TV Production, and I couldn’t be happier. Now to move on to the next chapter of my life, which is exciting but slightly terrifying.

Now’s time to get back to regular posting. Today’s post should have been posted on Wednesday but as I said above, Wednesday was my graduation day so writing a blog post wasn’t really my top priority! This week’s Top 5 Wednesday is recent additions to my wishlist, which is probably one of the easiest ones to answer because my wishlist is almost as long as my TBR pile. Let’s go!
