Harry Potter Spells – Book Tag

harry potter tag.png

I was tagged to do this by Lauren at Comma Hangover and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve been tagged – I haven’t seen this before and as a super massive Harry Potter nerd, I can’t wait to do it! This tag involves thinking of books that match each spell. Let’s get started!

Netflix Shows I’m Currently Watching

currently watching.png

As well as books, I really love watching TV shows. I often prefer them to films because I love the idea that with TV, you can have hours and hours to extend the story and the characters rather than fitting everything into a couple of hours. It was great doing a degree in Film & TV Production because it gave me an excuse to watch loads of TV “to study the cinematography and how it’s made” (which sometimes I actually did; some things are so stunningly made that I can’t help studying them as I watch them!).

In this post I’ll summarise everything I’m watching at the moment on Netflix, whether they’re rewatches or new shows. If you need some recommendations, I’d definitely recommend most of these!

REVIEW: The Wrong Kind of Clouds by Amanda Fleet

wrong kind of clouds

wrong kind of clouds infosynopsis
Patrick Forrester is in trouble. Deep trouble. Someone wants him dead. In fact, lots of people want him dead, but one of them has taken him hostage. As he’s being bundled away, he manages to call his ex-lover, Summer Morris, and begs her for help…

Summer Morris, an award-winning photographer with synaesthesia, hasn’t spoken to Patrick for months. With good reason. In fact, she would have been happy never to hear from him again. But, he begged her for help, so she’s trying to help. Along with an off-duty police officer, Detective Sergeant LB Stewart, she gets swept into Patrick’s world of lies and deceit, in a desperate race against time to find him alive.

Trying to unpick the knot of Patrick’s life takes them from an affair that could help bring down a government, to the dust and heat of Malawi, and a whole heap of trouble in between. If only they knew who wanted him dead, they might find him alive. The trouble is, almost everyone wants Patrick dead.

Top 5 Wednesday: Books Outside My Comfort Zone

july w1.png

I decided I wanted to take part in Top 5 Wednesday ages ago, at least a month ago, but I just kind of got distracted and never did it. I wrote drafted some posts and everything but for some reason, I never got around to actually writing and posting them. This month I’m actually going to do it!

The Top 5 Wednesday challenge is hosted in a Goodreads group. Each month, prompts are posted for each Wednesday of the month and the goal is to think of five things in that topic. Today’s topic is my favourite books that are outside my comfort zone; for example, nonfiction if you usually read fiction or contemporary if you usually read fantasy. This will be hard to pick five because I don’t often read things out of my comfort zone, but I’ll try my best!

BLOG TOUR: Where Is Emma Butler’s Life Plan? by Julia Wilmot

Picture

Today is my stop on the blog tour for Where is Emma Butler’s Life Plan? by Julia Wilmot. This book is an intriguing twist on the chick-lit genre, and I have an exclusive extract for you!

Emma Butler doesn’t know it but she is about to get bit more angelic help than she was banking on. Someone has messed up, or have they?

It appears that Emma is about to be ‘recalled’ to heaven but has completed none of the tasks she had set herself for this life time. They must be completed before she is recalled and time is running out. Arch Angel Gregory decides to take over. He will be her Guardian Angel to ensure it all gets done.

There’s a lot to do and a very short time to do it in. Gregory is determined that it will all be completed by hook or by crook. But where does that leave free will and what about Jack who has been chosen to be Emma’s love interest? How will this impact him? Jack and Emma have no idea what is going on, but it’s not going to be plain sailing.

Monthly Wrap-Up ● June 2016

june wrap up

After managing to complete Blog Every Day in May last month, it felt weird to adjust to not posting every day again in June – I almost felt guilty having a couple of days off posting. It’s funny going from worrying that you haven’t scheduled a post for the next day, to casually going a day or two without thinking about it! However I haven’t slacked on the reading front, and June has been a fairly good month for reading and blogging – so here’s a list of all the books I read and blog things I’ve been up to!

REVIEW: Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg

magic bitter magic sweet.png

magic bitter info.pngsynopsis
Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn’t know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from.

When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch’s gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes.

During her captivity, Maire is visited by Fyel, a ghostly being who is reluctant to reveal his connection to her. The more often they meet, the more her memories return, and she begins to piece together who and what she really is—as well as past mistakes that yield cosmic consequences.

From the author of The Paper Magician series comes a haunting and otherworldly tale of folly and consequence, forgiveness and redemption.

Shaw Academy: First Impressions

shaw academy.png

A while ago I found out about the Shaw Academy: an online educator specialising in many different courses and taught through webinars, a bit like the Open University. For the past couple of months I’ve been really interested in expanding my knowledge on digital and social media marketing, SEO (search engine optimisation) etc – not only to help my blog, but to help me achieve the career I’d love.

So, I was instantly excited when I found out that the Shaw Academy were offering a select number of their courses for FREE, when they’re usually £395!! I signed up straight away for the Digital Marketing course, waited a couple of weeks for it to begin, and yesterday I had my first webinar – and I’m going to tell you about my first impressions!
